Clear distinction between good and failed practices is the key for successful Roma integration programs

Today, in the European Parliament, the Open Society Foundation hosted a conference titled „National Roma Strategies – Ensuring a Comprehensive and Effective European Approach”. In her video message, MEP Lívia Járóka urged to draw lessons of the so called "Decade of Roma Inclusion Program"; the strict and independent monitoring of Roma inclusion projects and full compliance with the principles and schedule of the recently adopted European Framework for National Roma Strategies.

Closer eyes on EU Roma inclusion projects

The Roma Working Group of the European People's Party held an open session on the results of the EU pilot project on Roma inclusion. Lívia Járóka - chair of the Working Group - emphasized that assessing the transferability of programmes, strengthening their monitoring and developing an early warning mechanism for failing projects were the necessary prerequisites of upscaling real good practices.

Marginalized groups could contribute to revitalize European economy

The prestigious organization "Friends of Europe" along with Financial Times and the Polish EU Presidency organized a roundtable discussion titled "State of Europe - Re-thinking the European Project". In her speech, Hungarian MEP Lívia Járóka urged the community-level treatment of social tensions which are currently threatening with the disruption of social cohesion. She also highlighted that crisis-management should not overshadow anti-poverty measures, indispensable for Europe's socio-economic prosperity.

Internship Programme

 

The aim of the internship programme is to support the emergence of a group of European Roma youngsters  who will gain a broad European perspective and practice , a high level of qualified knowledge of the political processes, of institutional structures and of available resources within the EU, along with introducing the interns into the functioning of European political processes, especially with respect to the structure and working patterns within the European Parliament. In order to achieve this, interns should actively participate in the work of the MEP's office, undertaking a whole spectrum of tasks and acquainting themselves with the bodies that play an important role within the political process.

 

Each stagiaire is reimbursed on arrival with the cost of a return air fare between his or her place of origin and Brussels. Accommodation in Brussels and Strasbourg is provided free of charge to the stagiaire. A stipend of €250 weekly is paid.

 

Conditions for application are the follows:

  • citizenship: EU or associated state
  • age: 22-35
  • currently pursuing/completed higher education (B.A. and/or M.A)
  • very good knowledge of English and good writing skills
  • experience on Roma issues

 

The application, which must be submitted in English should contain:

 

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • letter of motivation, explaining expectations of the program and the way in which one intends to integrate this experience into their future activities ( in English)
  • certificates attesting university degrees and language skills
  • reference by an academic or employer who knows the candidate well

 

Application for admission is continuous; however you are advised  to send your application 6 months prior to the preferred starting date of your internship
